Although there are lots of things to do, East Kalimantan (KALTIM as it is locally known is made out of Kalimantan Timur) has more to offer. There are some nice cities to indulge yourself (Balikpapan, Samarinda and Tarakan). There are the well known natural attractions like the Mahakan river. But from Derawan you could also do little more adventurous trips:
- Look for Orang Utans while walking through Kutai National Park
- Take a trip up the Kayan and Bahau rivers to experience Dayak live and trek through primary jungle
These are not the easiest trips, but hey you already made it to Kalimantan. If you want easy trips go to Java or Bali 🙂
