Can the management of large grazers help make salt marsh ecosystems more resilient in the face of climate change? πππ± – Post by Marieke Mom – WildMarsh
To explore this, I am currently growing salt marsh plant species from seed for a mesocosm experiment planned for next year. The goal is to better understand how grazing management might shape ecosystem resilience under changing environmental conditions.
Because mesocosm experiments simulate natural systems in a controlled setting, it is important that all plants share the same starting conditions. More than six species have been sown, and each tiny seedling is now carefully transplanted by hand into its own pot π±
Itβs a delicate process, guided by patience π laying the foundation for next year’s experiment, one small plant at a time.
