Heatwave conditions do not slow down WildMarsh

June 25, 2026

Post By Marieke Mom; 25 June 2026

🌑️With temperatures of 41°C in the field, our early starts came with the reward of stunning sunrises.

πŸ„ In the Camargue, France, we compared rewilded parts of the marsh, grazed by Camargue cattle, with areas without large grazers.

🀝 Thank you to Lia Condeminas from the Syndicat Mixte pour la protection et la gestion de la Camargue Gardoise for guiding us through the marsh and helping us navigate the bumpy Mediterranean jungle roads.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Έ Next stop: Spain!

πŸ‘‹ Arrivederci, Italy!

πŸ•οΈ Our tent site became a temporary root-drying station! With our plant biomass safely dried (see photo), we’re wrapping up a successful first stop of the WildMarsh field campaign along the European coastline.

🐴 In Italy, we compared a rewilded part of the saltmarsh, grazed by Camargue horses since ~1990, with a part without large grazers.

🀝 A big thank you to our collaborators at the Isonzo River Mouth Nature Reserve for their support, hospitality, and expertise. It was a privilege to work in this beautiful environment.

πŸ‡«πŸ‡· Next stop: France!
πŸ‘‹ See you soon, French collaborators!
