We are hiring! Two PhD Positions are available as part of the NWO-funded WildMarsh project, focusing on trophic #rewilding in coastal ecosystems! Collaborate with a team from Wageningen University and the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ) as we explore how reintroducing large animals 🦌🐃 in #saltmarshes impacts biodiversity and coastal resilience against climate change. 🌱🌊:

Position 1: Advertised through Wageningen University (WUR)
This PhD role focuses on experimentally investigating the impacts of trophic rewilding on salt marsh resilience. You will work closely with field surveys, mesocosm experiments, and innovative tools like animal-borne cameras to study how reintroduced animals influence biodiversity, plant growth, and overall ecosystem stability. Collaboration with citizen scientists, artists, and other researchers will be an integral part of this position, allowing for creative and impactful public engagement.
Position 2: Advertised through Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ)
In this PhD position, you will focus on developing computational models of tidal marsh dynamics and spatial indicators of ecosystem resilience. Your work will address how rewilding can mitigate climate-change-induced challenges like sea-level rise, increased storminess, and heat waves. You will collaborate closely with the experimentally focused PhD candidate from WUR, combining insights from modeling and field experiments to build a comprehensive understanding of rewilding impacts and engage the public.
Are you passionate about ecology, coastal resilience, and making a real-world impact in advancing trophic rewilding in European salt marshes!? We encourage you to apply!
📅 Application deadline: September 29, 2024.
🗓️ Start date: No later than February 2025.
