🚀 Field Project in Marine Sciences: Mission Accomplished! 🌊 122 dedicated Wageningen University & Research students immersed themselves in both ecological and social marine fieldwork techniques, analyzing the intricate socio-ecological system around Texel

Island using the DIPSR framework.
For nearly 100 BSc Marine Sciences students, this course was a pivotal integration of their first-year skills and knowledge. Witnessing this course come together after years of preparation has been truly rewarding (despite the necessary challenges 🙂 ).
Highlights from our week-long trip to Texel included: students investigated their own designed research project 🔍Sampling benthic communities at Mokbay’s mudflats 📊 Creating sediment balances at the Slufter 🐟 Sampling fish communities aboard the Tx10 🛶 Observing social activities at sea. And an awesome staff team that made this go smooth.
Students took the lead in their group projects, crafting unique research questions and conducting fieldwork observations and experiments in our Texel setup. The Belbin tests helped streamline group roles, ensuring effective collaboration.
As educators, we also embraced the challenges of teaching first-year BSc students, insights we’re eager to apply to the 2025 course iteration. Luckily, we are welcome again at Texel
Heartwarming course evaluations from our students culminated in a well-deserved team pizza celebration! 🍕
Thank you to everyone involved for making this an unforgettable learning experience.
