Looking for the next best thing to study? Tropical seascapes often consist of interlinked mangroves-seagrass-coral ecosystems but they are rarely investigated together! In this new review led by Sara Pino Cobacho, we identified key research questions that need to be addressed regarding biogeochemical connectivity in tropical seascapes;
🔍 (Your?) Research Questions:
* Can connected habitats serve as refugia against ocean acidification?
* Can mangroves reduce bacterial loads, thus lowering (coral) disease incidence?
* Can contaminants in mangrove leaves transfer to adjacent habitats?
* How do plastic wastes impact habitat connectivity within the biome?
* Can tropical habitats mitigate eutrophication and sulphide accumulation from sargassum brown tides?
* Does sargassum retention by mangroves intensify its impact on adjacent habitats?
Addressing these gaps is crucial for effective conservation and management strategies.
