Map How to get to Derawan

Arrange a VISA in your home country first -> tourist can come in with a “tourist visa” (30 days, on the airport) but if you also visit as a researcher then view the instructions on this website about “Research permit procedure for Indonesia“  (2009).

1) Home -> Jakarta/Singapore -> Balikpapan/Tarakan

You first have to fly to Balikpapan or Tarakan. Balikpapan can be reached from Jakarta and Singapore.

From Jakarta it is better to take the morning flight to Balikpapan between 05.00 – 07.00 AM Jakarta time with Mandala, Lion Air, Batavia air or Garuda Indonesia. In this way you can connect with Batavia air, Kalstar/DAS to fly from Balikpapan – Berau (see scheme below) in 1 day.

Silk Air/Singapore Airlines has daily flights to Balikpapan. The flights on Mon/Wed/Thu and Saturday between Singapore – Balikpapan 07.55 – 10.15 are connecting with flight Balikpapan – Berau by Kalstar/DAS at the same day. From 2008 they drastically increased in price, so via Jakarta is a better option
